Tour of Malahide Castle

Malahide Castle

Rashel and I woke up very early this morning and made our way to Malahide castle, her younger brother Michael came along for added company. Turns out, despite living so close to this tourist attraction, Michael has never actually visited before. Turns out I wasn’t alone in this boat!

You could see the castle walls from just about a mile away, despite being hidden somewhat from some tall trees. Surreal is maybe the best word I have to describe the experience. It’s difficult to fully wrap my head around this place actually being inhabited during the 12th century.

This place has a rich history. Originallybestowed upon knight Richard Talbot, eventually this castle would see the traumatic deaths of fourteen family members in a single day during the Battle of the Boyne. The details surrounding the event are dense, our tour guide gave us a pretty basic overview. I have every intention of looking further into it when I have some time to sit down and read about it.

Rashel invited me to another family dinner tonight, and it certainly helps protect my budget after the loss of my phone. I was all too happy to oblige.
