How to Make Swedish Glögg

Swedish Glögg Recipe

Swedish Glögg

The holidays are just around the corner, and it’s time to introduce one of our favorite holiday cocktails, Swedish Glögg. Making this hot alcoholic beverage for your close company is simple and easy.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started,

  • 250 ml Glögg concentrate, usually found at specialty beverage stores selling alcohol
  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • Spiced Rum
  • Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange peel
  • 1 teaspoon mixed spice
  • 1 -2 cinnamon sticks
  • Nutmeg (just a dab)
  • 6 – 8 whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon raisins

Once you’ve set your ingredients, it’s time to cook. Start by mixing your bottle of wine with the Glögg concentrate, orange peel, raisins, cloves and mixed spice in a large pot. Warm this mix over low heat.

While sugar is optional here, we feel it really enhances the sweetness of the drink – add just a bit if you decide to include it in your Glögg.

Pour in 1 part of the spiced rum or alternatively vodka. This extra liquor helps really add to the warmth of the drink. Let your Glögg sit over a low heat for 15 – 20 minutes before serving.

We like adding fresh raisins to the bottom of your serving mugs. You can additionally garnish your drinks with cinnamon sticks to add a more natural spice to overall Glögg flavoring.

Now you’re set to enjoy a traditional Swedish favorite, just in time for the holiday season. Cheers!
