Ahh, UK Ciders. The English love their cider, and I too, love the sometimes sickeningly sweet taste of fermented apple juice. Ciders in the UK put American ciders to shame, over there my much beloved Strongbow is just a cheap (pbr cheap) drink.
UK Ciders Overview
Brothers: a variety of flavors including toffee apple and lemon pear
Rekorderlig: Swedish cider, especially in strawberry lime is an absolute must
Kopparberg: Another highly varied line of ciders including elderflower and lime
Druids: Cheap, effective (Ireland only)
Bulmers/Magners: A tasty dry cider, cheap
Strongbow: Pretty much the most well-renowned cider in the world, cheap as it gets in the UK; you can literally get a 2 liter or a 40oz of it.
Personally I found myself really taken with the Rekorderlig. Maybe it’s just the Swedish in me but there’s something remarkable about the cider that you can’t really place, totally unique from anything else I’ve tried. That tops my UK Ciders list.
You won’t immediately find some of these ciders available in the States, just in case you’re personally looking to start your own taste test. I recommend trying out Bevmo or Total Wine — they have an amazing selection of imported ciders. Bit of a warning, the prices run a bit steeper the more exclusive the beverage. If you’re thinking about having the freshest and most reasonably priced ciders in the UK, you’ll need to go straight to the source!
