After the Baltimore Aquarium – Baltimore Monuments & Museums

baltimore aquarium After having such an amazing time at the Baltimore Aquarium yesterday, I decided to keep up with the Baltimore tourist traps and check out some of the awesome monuments around the city. Baltimore is home to some of the coolest historic monuments, so I figured I better check them out while I’m here!

The hotel I’m staying at was nice enough to provide me with a list of monuments around the cities including directions to each one from the hotel! Very cool.

First up: The Washington Monument in Mount Vernon. Luckily my first stop was super close to the hotel, so I ended up taking a nice walk through the city before arriving at my destination. The weather here is a bit humid for my taste, but wonderful nonetheless. The sun was protected by some clouds and the wind was blowing at the perfect speed.

I was pretty amazed when I arrived at the monument. It was placed nicely in the middle of the street which made me think how often it gets passed by on a daily basis by the locals out here. My guide said that this was the first monument dedicated to George Washington, our first president.

I took a seat at the monument to relax and let the sun hit my face for a while before looking up and seeing the Walters Art Museum was just a few meters away! Now, I’m not typically one to stop and walk through a museum, but after being inspired by the wonderful colors of the Baltimore Aquarium, I decided to embrace my inner tourist and take a walk about the museum.

The building was HUGE on the inside and had everything from paintings to armory to jewelry across the massive three stories. I immediately got lost in the epicness of the entire experience and before too long I looked at the time and realized I had been in the museum for almost three hours! Not only that, my stomach was telling me (and the rest of the museum for that matter) that it was time to get some grub!

There was a nice little place just outside the museum call the Cozy Corner that looked perfect for a mid-afternoon meal. I ordered some spicy chicken noodles and an ice tea and was just about in heaven. What a great cozy place!
