A number of trains across the nation transform into a magic winter wonderful for the holidays. Most of the train rides are inspired by the 2004 hit movie, The Polar Express. Families get the chance to get into the holiday spirit with these amazing holiday themed train rides.
Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad in Washington
It may not be the official Polar Express, but the Santa Express is pretty similar and is still a great time for residents and visitors of Washington. The steam train takes guests through the woodlands of Mount Rainier so it can get very cold, but the ride is well worth it. Tickets sell out quick, so make sure to make reservations right away. The train takes guests on a train ride through the beautiful landscapes of Washington while they can drink cocoa and eat delicious cookies while heading to the North Pole. The Santa Express starts late November and will be open until December 21st.
Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan
The Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan really goes all out for the holidays with villagers dressed in costumes and homes and shops decorated with bright holiday lights. The Colwell Opera House near by also offers great entertainment and a spot where children can see Santa Claus. The village is completely covered in sparkling lights and is always playing holiday music. The railroad also offers a nighttime train ride for guests to a great view of all of the lighted up holiday festivities.
Grand Canyon Railway in Arizona
If you want to experience the official Polar Express, check out The Grand Canyon Railway. The rides usually start in early November and run to January. The train ride takes about an hour and guests ride through the beautiful forests of Williams, Arizona and stops at the North Pole. This is where kids can see Santa Claus and all of his reindeer. Plus, there will be plenty of cookies and hot chocolate and endless Christmas stories and music.
