The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is held in the heart of Colorado and usually takes place around May. Cyclists ride their bikes next to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge railroad. The race dates back to the early 1970s when a cyclist raced the train to Silverton and won. The Iron Horse Bicycle Classis is now a whole weekend full of festivities, mountain bike racing, a parade, a costume contest and even a kids’ race. Over 1,000 racers compete each year in the pro divisions and about 1,500 amateurs race the train over a 50-mile course. Riders can go fast or slow and the sidelines are full of locals cheering the racers on.

This adventure race last over a week and only costs around $2,000 dollars, which includes lodging, activities and meals. The Race2Adventure takes place every March in Guatemala, but it isn’t all just work and no play. Participants take place in challenging trails every morning that range from 5 to 10 kilometers long. But in the afternoon, participants can go on fun, yet active events like swimming in waterfalls and hot springs, jumping off cliffs, river rafting and even visiting Maya ruins. But they can also choose to just lounge around and drink cocktails. This adventure really takes work harder, but play harder to a whole new level.

Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland

This marathon sells out almost every year and it is because of the gorgeous scenery. The event has been going on for more than 20 years getting bigger and better each year. The even usually takes place in September and participants run 26.2 miles, mostly uphill, but through the beautiful country of Switzerland. Runners start at the pretty resort town of Interlaken and pass Swiss villages and waterfalls. The course takes runners through the famous peaks of Switzerland known as the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Make sure to save some energy for the end, the last ten miles of race is pretty much a 5,000 vertical feet climb.
