On my last day in the city I woke up fairly early and went on a job around my hotel. The wind was cold (as usual) but it felt good to get out of my stuffy hotel room. I ran along the river, passing a few other joggers who decided to make the most of such a beautiful morning.
I ended up finding a small little cafe and grabbed a shot of espresso while I caught my breath. I chatted with the barista there who told me that I wasn’t too far from the University of Illinois campus, so I decided to run through there. It was beautiful! I even saw some students running — maybe they were just late for class!
After my run I showered and packed up my things. When I looked at my watch I realized that I still had plenty of time before I had to get to the airport, and at that exact moment my stomach began to growl. I knew I had time for just one more quick little brunch in Chicago!
I grabbed my things and made my way to the lobby, where the receptionist recommended a spot near the airport called Sammy’s Kitchen. As soon as I arrived at Sammy’s I knew I was going to love it. It wasn’t too busy and the smells coming from the kitchen reminded me of my mother’s cooking — home style goodness that would make anyone’s mouth water.
Once I sat down I looked over the menu and all the items looked fantastic. I wanted to order everything! Naturally I went with the veggie omelet which was absolutely incredible. It wasn’t too greasy (like some omelets I’ve had in the past) and was filling without being too much food.
Dinner, dancing, brunch, art museums and even just walking around this wonderful city, it’s easy to say I’ve had an absolute blast in Chicago. It doesn’t matter how many times I visit this city, I always seem to find something new to do or a new place to explore. The people are always so friendly and I always seem to learn something new about myself with every visit.
As much fun as I had in Chicago I’m ready to go home and relax for a while before going to Washington, D.C. For now, it’s time to wait for my flight while I have a quick margarita!
