Largest Balloon Festival Takes Over New Mexico

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is officially in full swing and will continue in New Mexico until October 11th. This happens to be one of the world’s largest balloon festivals with over 700 balloons. The beauty is really unexplainable, which is why it is also one of the most photographed events.

The first thing you should do each morning of the event is to check the weather. Weather conditions have to be ideal for the balloons to launch so it is always best to check the weather ahead of time for any cancellations. It can get a little chilly in Albuquerque this time of year, so I would dress accordingly. It is also a good idea to head to the festival early to beat all of the traffic.

By 10 a.m., most of the balloons are in the air. This is a great time to wander around and explore all of the festivities. There are a ton of merchants around the festival grounds and plenty of concessions to grab some food, including the festival’s famous breakfast burritos. You can also munch on some turkey legs, hot dogs, pizza and barbeque. There is also The Balloon Discovery Center where you can learn all about the balloons. If you are looking for some more information on the balloons, you can always head to The Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum.

Around 6 p.m. is when the Balloon Glow takes place and this might be one of the most spectacular events. At the Balloon Glow, you will see hundreds of inflated balloons that all light their burners at the same time. It really is a sight to see. The entire festival grounds will be covered with gorgeous glowing balloons for all to see.

But that isn’t the end of your busy day at The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. After the Balloon Glow, make sure to stick around for the fireworks show. This isn’t just your everyday fireworks either. These are some of the best fireworks you will see. It is the perfect way to end a beautiful day exploring hot air balloons.
