Brooklyn’s Bedford Ave — Budget Travel Blog L&T

It’s been a pleasure working on this budget travel blog, and I’m happy I had the chance to become a contributing author. Being able to contribute a segment about Brooklyn, one of the most cultured cities in the world, is particularly a reward in itself. I just woke up this morning and started reflecting on where I was!

Ah, Bedford, the epicenter of hipsterdom, the Haight-Ashbury of the PBR and horn-rimmed glasses generation. It sure ain’t cheap though, that’s for sure. Bedford Avenue offers some of the most interesting people watching in Brooklyn, it’s the place to see and be seen. All those pictures of people with crazy hair and ridiculous clothing you see on the internet roam the streets then in a flash tuck into their local coffee bar. Like a rare bird, they are gone in an instant, until you think you see them again moments later, but it’s just another idiot.

The Budget Travel Blog Guide to Brooklyn Newcomers

If you haven’t been to Brooklyn in the past few years, it has gotten ridiculously safe, as gentrification pushes the original Brooklynites further out, there’s less of a reason to fear for your safety. As a 24 year old woman, I walked around the streets alone in the wee hours of the morning, and had no problems. Obviously, everyone should always be aware of their surroundings, and things always happen no matter what, I’m just an idiot. But really, Brooklyn has morphed into a little Portland-meets-Manhattan type of situation. (I understand Portland will similarly be featured in this or another budget travel blog).

There’s a lot of great places you can hit up on Bedford Ave, plenty of food places, junk shops, and any other weird niche destinations. Some of my favorite little spots include Earwax Records, Brooklyn charm (cool charms, make your own jewelry), Bliss Café, and In God We Trust (one of many awesome fancier boutiques.) It may be bending the rules a bit to touch much on boutiques for a budget travel blog, but hey — I have an addition.
