Don’t ever get my mom singing that song “Galway Girl” unless you want me to hear me screaming for her to stop. In reality though, Galway is one of my favorite things in the world, unlike Irish music. Galway is only a few hours away from the heart of Dublin, you can take a bus, train, or car over there for a day or weekend trip.
Ireland’s West Coast
I took a bus which went through Galway, the coastal town, known as a hotbed of witchery and pagan mysticism back in ye olden days, but now it remains a little beach town. Along the coast and country you will find the remains of dilapidated abbeys which are hardly even buildings but still conjure up a feeling of the past and are a sight for wonder.
One of the musts of visiting Western Ireland is going to the Cliffs of Moher, which has been featured in many epic movies such as the Princess Bride and Harry Potter. Its sheer beauty is unlike anything my desert-dwelling eyes have ever seen. There is also a visitor center which you can kick back and relax in. Just be sure to watch the weather when you go, don’t be like me and get stuck in a furious rainstorm and end up as a soggy frowny face in a hot blue poncho.
