How to Keep That Passport Safe

If you travel out of the country a lot then you know how important it is to always have your passport handy. We all get that anxiety feeling when we get ready for a trip that maybe our passport isn’t where we thought it was. Or that terrible feeling when you are actually on your trip, but there are some smart moves you can do to help you stop freaking out.

If you are worried about your passport being stolen or getting lost on your trip, then you might want to think about travel insurance. Make sure you know where the closest embassy is to you and register with them before you head on your trip. It is also very smart to always carry a second form of identification and some extra passport-sized photos. Just in case you do end up losing your passport, you will be prepared to get another one so you can get back home.

It is also always important to have personal information and documents in an easy access place. Well, easy to access for you! You can either carry all of these things with you in a safe place or store all of them on a flash drive. Just make sure you keep all of these things in a place where you can’t lose or get them stolen. You can also leave sealed copies of these documents with someone who you trust and can contact easily if need be.

One of the best ways to keep your documents safe, yet easy to access would be to upload them to a service where they are protected, but you can access them on your trip. As long as you know you have Internet access, this might be the safest way. Or to cover your entire basis, do all of these things!

Remember, you will need the following documents to obtain a new passport: travel itinerary, driver’s license, social security card and birth certificate.
